Francis Duggan - On Koalas Fighting

Out there in the front yard in the dead of the night <br />The koalas they grunt and they snarl as they fight <br />Quite cuddly to look at in the light of day <br />But their territorial disputes far rougher than play <br />With them there is far more than mere pride at stake <br />They keep me awake with the racket they make <br />Dispossession for a male koala is a tragedy <br />They live in danger without a territory <br />They snarl and grunt as they do fight it out <br />Wrestle and claw at each other and use teeth and mouth <br />A koala without a territory may as well be dead <br />For tonight's loser there are tough times ahead <br />They fill the night air with their hoarse warring cry <br />Whilst a November moon steals through the starry sky.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-koalas-fighting/
